i have been really crap at maintaining this site lately but i have been writing daily and also editing stuff. nanowrimo approaches and i have a very loose idea for the novel that i want to write. it will partly tighten up when i work out the structure of the thing and, as is usual, it will get more cohesive as i write it.

i picked the title randomly using a word generator and almost immediately saw the potential. the literal meaning i almost instantly discarded, but it does have potential as a means of playing around with different images and meanings. there isn’t a word that can’t be slanted and messed around with for literary purposes.

so, however short, i, as i have promised to before, aim to get this site running on a regular slot again.

Monday

So, over the weekend I had a pretty major win – the hard drive from my old computer which I had been locked out of for a couple of years was finally resurrected. i have had a couple of people look at it and I was told it could be got to, but after all that expertise it was a total fluke which repaired it. I rebooted my new computer and left the hard drive plugged in and my new computer decided to run check disk on it.

The computer finally booted up and when I clicked through to the computer folder to access the hard drive it was finally reading that there was some data on there. I have recovered several lost novels in progress, a whole host of short stories – some of which I had forgotten about writing; some major missing parts of flash fiction serials, and three completed and edited poetry books.

Now I have some new or rather lost things to put out there into the world and bring to completion. Very cool.

Friday

I am going to get back on the ball with this site. I have been brainstorming a lot and have come up with what I think are some great ideas, both regarding the actual narratives themselves and the story formats.

I have also been counting how many poems I have written and spread-sheeting it; cataloguing it by first line, in preparation for a massive release of work that hasn’t yet been assigned to any collections. I am definitely working to consolidate and build on my hard work, and getting this site up to speed again is part of that.

thursday

i am getting a whole load of projects up and running at the moment – some of which are going to take me through a couple of years worth of website activity. there will be a huge project where i am posting a weekly post for a different site everyday for 52 weeks and at the end of that a book will come out.

additional to that i have all the things which i have which are in the editing stages and are awaiting illustrations.

i have one group project running at the moment which is hopefully going to open the way for other projects in the future – definitely a print project when we have gathered enough work.

i am writing more than a few novels at the moment which will come out totally virgin with no prior publication on any of my websites. i have a couple of non-fiction projects already in the works based off of a couple of the sites i maintain and a couple of projects that have not seen the light of day anywhere.

add to this the fact that i have set up several different websites lately on which i have published a single part of the story just to stake out the territory in which the eventual book will play out and you have quite a busy schedule.

i want to produce something with my art as well and i am still letting the comics ideas that i have gestate in my mind. once some of the short form works are in the bag i most definitely want to get something longer out there so that i can show off my abilities on a larger canvas and so that i can tackle something with a larger scope.

creatively, as always, it is pretty exciting time for me.

i should maybe call this site psg infrequently. i have been setting up a whole load of different projects and i should be pretty heavily into editing and illustrating for a while; there are a whole load of books that i want to get out there that have been waiting on me to sit down and just add the finishing touches. i have also started a few different websites in the last couple of weeks – jenkem dreams being perhaps the most out there of the ideas – a whole society literally going down the shitter as they inhale the fumes of a drug called jenkem which is basically fermented shit. and i know i have said it a few times but ortoematic is very close to completion – 3 stories in waiting and then i have to edit together and probably get a foreword from someone and i am good. anyone – always busy writing and coming up with ideas.

friday

so me and a few friends have commited to writing a poem a day for the month of september – this is something i did once before and produced two books from. the poetry has been a little on the backburner of late so it will be good to flex those muscles again.

i want to start wrapping up a few projects soon – get those which are in the editing stages finished and out there, and on a larger scale i want to get my company running properly and getting my work out there to more people. at the moment i have a network of sites putting out current projects and there are a lot of complete books which i would like to get a better handle on the distribution of.

the market seems fairly open and i have some great reads for lovers of all genres.

so, i have been writing a lot of 55 word micro fiction in the last few days on my site counting 55 and today i just launched counting 434 which is a spin off the whole 434 project which was kickstarted by broadie thornton over on facebook. i really enjoy both these forms – they make you pare down what you need to say to tell a story right down to the bone; it tightens up all your other work when you have to learn how to write this way. if you haven’t tried it and you sometimes feel that your work is flabby and bogged down by unnecessary verbiage and dead end story elements, then this could be the solution. it kind of reminds of writing “news in briefs” when i trained as a journalist – it kicked the crap out of the writer i was … having learned by writing essays and such … the whole point there was to prove that you had this huge vocabulary and you ended up with a whole load of guff that never really told anybody anything and never really forwarded the story in the least.

i am still amassing submissions for the magazine magazine and hope to launch that soon – if you are reading this and you have something that you think might be worth submitting please don’t hesitate to shoot it over to me. and again, i know i said it here before, but i also intend to get this site running on a daily basis again, as the title indicates it should be – not some random dropping in of thoughts which i have another site to handle.

Monday

So, the site here has been a little neglected in recent days. i am now working on a regular 9 to 5 slot so I am going to have to rethink my schedule for writing on this thing so as to make it a daily thing. i have started up a couple of websites since I was last on here and I have been networking through facebook, laying the groundwork for some big projects.

Weaponizer will be kickstarting my series Weapon Eyes, sir off again so that’s cool; Ortoematic is coming to the close of its first volume and will be on a brief hiatus until the second is ready to go. A couple of poetry sites are also going to be good to go shortly.

Thursday

I sat here for a second staring at my screen feeling tired. I sat here and I was a little pissed off about the fact that I had lost a whole chapter of something I am writing, afraid that not being able to reconstruct it will damage the story, and part of me wondered, what would it be like not to write anymore? And I saw how easy it could be to just give up on writing and how a full schedule could swallow that loss and you wouldn’t even notice. Would I be the same person still? Others might say not, but would it be a change for the worse necessarily? Who knows? Is it likely to pass? Again, who knows. I don’t think so – I think I am just tired and  need to adjust my schedule to facilitate creativity. This might have been longer if I had a little more energy. Some people have never read my writing so how much would it affect them? Not at all. This is probably a doubt all creative people have pass through their minds at some point.

Wednesday

i am sitting here watching ‘transcendent man’ a film centred around ray kurzweill and the technological singularity and its an interesting perspective. the scenarios that all these guys trot out are things which are common parlance in science fiction.

the problem i have with seeing the views of ray kurzweill as purely the views of a visionary trying to cheat death, are that you see how obsessed he is with his own father’s death, and how scared he is of his own. so, is he really looking to the future or is he looking fixedly at the past? for a man overly interested in the physical continuation of self and the need to physically alter the body in order to prolong its lifespan, the effort he puts into maintaining his health, he does not seem very healthy.

i do see his viewpoint as very reductive – his idea of what a human being is, of what death represents, and how one can cheat it, are all grounded in the physical universe.

so, yeah, there you have it – my major problem is that it contradicts my spiritual reality. i see that the things he is talking about will be great ways to manipulate the physical universe but that is it. he talks of information in a pseudo-religious way, as he does the transcendence, and the singularity; it represents an expansion of conciousness, but i would suggest that his focus on the physical nature of this basically spiritual awakening means that he is looking at it from the wrong angle, and he does this because his own health and the health of his father have trapped into thinking that maintaining the body is the only way for his essence to survive.
